Super Staycation Addison Style

The Oxford English Dictionary defines a staycation as a “vacation spent in one’s home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions.” Yep – it became a real word in 2010. But now, in 2020, we define it as exploring all the great things about our area without having to hop on a plane to get somewhere.

Here in North Texas, we are excited to plan a great staycation in the gem of a location that is Addison. There is so much to do here, it’s worth a few planned weekend stays!

We do two different kinds of staycations in our house – with kids and without. Both are loads of fun but require distinctly different planning.

When we staycation with the kids, we’re looking to balance a combination of “do, try, learn.” Addison offers some great opportunities for that.

Normally, when you say “museum” to the kids, they wince a little. But with Addison’s Cavanaugh Flight Museum, that’s never the case. They love exploring all four massive hangars, and there’s no one shouting, “Don’t touch.” Helpful docents can show the kids all the cool details behind each of these amazing warbirds that actually still fly! You can even book flights in many of them. Add it to your to-do bucket-list!

There’s even an option for the gamers in the family! Zero Latency in Village on the Parkway offers some of the coolest high-tech experiences available. This free-form Virtual Reality playground lets you stalk the undead in Zombie Survival or imagine you’ve been stranded in space while being hunted by robots in Singularity.

And if seeing the latest flicks is part of the weekend plan, remember that students always get a discount at the AMC Village on the Parkway 9. This state-of-the-art theater features Dolby sound, super comfy recliners, and the option to reserve your seats in advance.

Now for a grown-up staycation, you’ll want something a little different, right?

For a little daytime pampering, nothing beats the Grand Spa at Village on the Parkway. This massive 13,000-square-foot facility combines the best of a luxe day spa with the full-service offerings of a high-tech med spa. Our favorite package is the Couples Retreat, where we get an 80-minute Swedish couples massage, full customized facial, pedicure, and some healthy spa noshing, too. #treatyourself

Now that you’re all relaxed, it’s time for a night on the town.? After a super dinner at one of Addison’s 180 restaurants, head to the Addison Improv for a great laugh. Some of the country’s biggest comedians perform there. An insider tip – sign up for the Improv newsletter and get last-minute access to big names that never even make their regular calendar. Our favorite place to close out an evening in Addison is at Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar. This place offers fun cocktails, amazing entertainment, and so much more than just pianos! And don’t be shy – the team at Pete’s loves people who will sing loud and proud.

Whether you’re seeking a family-fun filled weekend or an extended date night getaway, Addison has great options around every turn! Find more ideas for your next staycation at VisitAddison.com.
