Athletic Club Renovation Survey

We are currently in the design phase for the Athletic Club Renovations and we want your input. Funds for the renovation were approved by voters in the 2019 Bond Election.  Improvements include locker room reconfiguration and firewall Improvements, gymnasium and track improvements, pool modernization, roof replacement, and HVAC improvements associated with the indoor pool.  The design plans will also address additional core building improvements pertaining to new flooring, paint, and lighting.  The core building improvements may be constructed at a later date depending on funding availability.

Please review the images provided and share your feedback via this on-line survey or in person at the Addison Athletic Club.  Please note that photos are representative of design styles and will be used to guide design decisions related to the project.  They are not an exact representation of what is being proposed.

The deadline to respond to this survey is midnight on October 12.

This survey is for Addison residents only. Please provide your name and address to confirm your residency. This information will be kept private and will not be shared.

Family Changing Rooms

The Adopted Addison Athletic Club Master Plan includes family changing suites be included in the locker room renovations.  LPA Architects has provided three layout options to be reviewed and commented on.  Each option is pictured below and includes a matrix that includes comparison data for each locker room.

Option A

The existing steam room and sauna remain in this option.  Family locker rooms are provided adjacent to each main locker room and are accessible from the pool deck and before the entry into the main locker rooms.

Option B

Option C

Option C includes a separate family locker room.  The size of the women’s locker room is reduced and the men’s locker room is relocated to the north side of the building in order to make space for the family locker room.   A unisex sauna replaces the individual saunas that were in each locker room and the steam room is eliminated.

Saunas

Below is information related to the pros and cons of traditional sauna and an infrared sauna.

Traditional Sauna (Dry Heat)

Uses dry heat to warm the air, which in turn warms the body.

Pros

  • Promotes Cardiovascular health, detoxifications, and stress reduction benefits for most individuals.
  • Relax muscles and soothe aches.
  • Cleanse Skin.
  • Can help you sleep faster and stay asleep longer.
  • Heat settings can be programmed to heat quickly and remain on for longer periods.
  • Offers higher temperature settings (150 - 190 degrees) with up to 20% humidity level.

Cons

  • Higher temperatures can be unpleasant or preferred depending on the individual.
  • Periodic rock replacement.

Infrared Sauna

Uses electromagnetic radiation from infrared lamps in panels to warm the body directly rather than heating the air.

Infrared Sauna sample

Pros

  • Several studies find benefit in infrared for treatment of certain chronic health conditions in addition to the same benefits as traditional saunas.
  • Different infrared models provide variations in benefits.
  • Provides lower temperature than traditional (100 - 150 degrees) with very low humidity.
  • Beneficial for individuals with low heat tolerance while simulating moderate exercise reactions.
  • Can also be used prior to a workout session to warm muscles.
  • Most people can tolerate longer sauna sessions due to lower hear levels.

Cons

Does not run constantly and there is a small wait time to reach the appropriate temperature.
